For the last four years, the Utah Legislature has considered tuition tax credit bills that would relieve pressure on the public school system, assist underprivileged children in need of quality education, give parents more educational choices and increase the total amount of money available for our schoolchildren. Several such bills have even made it through. But our past two governors have simply wrung their hands, worrying about the political implications of supporting such a measure. Ultimately, they have vetoed (or otherwise derailed) these bills.

Finally we have a governor who has spoken out courageously in favor of parents' unique ability to choose the best educational setting for their own children.

I hope the Legislature and the governor will remain firm and true in their support of intelligent measures like the tuition tax credit.
