Howard William Kempton 1918 ~ 2005 Howard William Kempton, 87, passed away December 27, 2005 at Provo, Utah after a long illness. Howard was born January 29, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Elmer Joseph Kempton and Caroline Moore. He graduated from Payson High School in 1936 where he participated in football, basketball, and track, setting a new state record in the relay. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1940 where he played on the BYU football team. He married the love of his life, Mary Alice Davis, on June 28, 1940 in Payson Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 28, 1950. The two of them shared a devoted, loving, and full life together for over 65 years. Howard served in the Navy in World War II on Attu in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He then worked at Kennecott Copper for over 40 years, retiring as Chief Chemist. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Ward Clerk for five different Bishops. He was Bishop of the Midvale 4th Ward and then served on the High Council for over 15 years. He was also a District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America. Howard was an avid sports fan and BYU supporter. He enjoyed traveling and took his wife, family, and parents on many wonderful vacations. He enjoyed gardening and fruit farming at his orchard on West Mountain. He was always kind, loving, and generous toward everyone. He is survived by his wife, Alice, Midvale; his son, K. Howard (Sheryl) Kempton, Orem; his grandchildren, Patricia (Aaron) Kammerman, Kearns; Sheryl (Ryan) Carty, Salt Lake; Mary (Jason) Kemp, Orem; Elizabeth (Dar) Quealy, Salt Lake; Jonathan (Mijoung) Kempton, Pyongtaek, Korea; Mark Kempton, Orem; his great-grand-children, John, Reed, Anna, and Hyrum Kammerman; Britton and Haley Kemp; his sister, Linda (Gary) McKinnon, serving in the Massachusetts Boston Mission. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Junior and Don; and his sisters Ruth and Carol. A viewing will be held Monday, January 2, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, Midvale. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 12 noon in the Midvale 4th Ward, 7825 S. Olympus (220 West), Midvale, with a viewing at the church from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery.
