CENTERVILLE — Two motorcycle riders were seriously injured Tuesday when they crashed head-on at a mountain recreation area.
Both were taken by medical helicopter to Salt Lake-area hospitals.
Brock Stout, a 16-year-old from Woods Cross, was riding his new motorcycle when he collided with Brad Scott, a Salt Lake man in his 20s, at a blind spot. Both were sent flying, said Centerville police Sgt. Niles Bartleson.
The crash happened at 4:55 p.m. about 500 feet north, but down the mountain from, the Viewmont High School "V."
Bartleson said both riders were wearing helmets and other protective gear. And both were traveling in third gear, which means they were going at a good clip, though exact speeds weren't known, he said.
The mountain area, known as The Bowl, is a popular area for motorcyclists, and crashes happen there from time to time, Bartleson said. He added there probably was nothing the two riders could have done to avoid the crash.
