The Utah Valley Symphony will present its annual young artists concerts next week in the Provo Tabernacle, 100 S. University Ave.
The concerts take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets are available at the door, $15 for a family pass, $5 for adults and $2 for students in a group. The concerts will be under the baton of music director Bryce Rytting.
Ten young area musicians will be featured at the concerts. And for the first time, an ensemble will also play with the orchestra.
The ensemble consists of violinists Porter Bowcut, 14, Spanish Fork; siblings Joshua Jensen, 14, and Jossalyn Jensen, 12, Springville; and sisters Rebekah Willey, 10, and Catherine Willey, 12, Pleasant Grove. They will play the first movement from Vivaldi's Concerto in B minor.
Catherine Willey, who plays cello, will also play David Popper's "Hungarian Rhapsody."
There will be three pianists performing at the concerts. Jonathan Keith, 15, American Fork, will play the first movement from Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3. Mary Mitton, 10, Provo, will play the finale from Haydn's Concerto in C major. Jonathan Bowman, 22, Santaquin, will solo in the first movement of Brahms' Second Piano Concerto.
French horn player Jordan Johnson, 16, Pleasant Grove, will solo in the Allegro movement from Mozart's Concerto No. 2 in E flat major.
Violinist John Kovalenko, 20, Provo, will play Saint-Saens' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso.
Rytting and the orchestra will open the concerts with Shostakovich's rousing "Festival" Overture.
