A Bountiful man has admitted to trying to cross the Canadian border with more than 600 images of child pornography on his computer.
Mark Edward Calder pleaded guilty this past week to a single count of transportation of child pornography. The charge carries a minimum mandatory five-year sentence and a maximum of 20 years in prison. Calder, 37, is scheduled to be sentenced July 28 by U.S. District Judge David Winder.
Calder was stopped July 29, 2004, as he was trying to enter Canada at the Cascade, British Columbia, port of entry.
In exchange for his guilty plea, federal prosecutors have agreed to dismiss one count of possession of child pornography and recommend that Calder be sentenced at the low end of the advisory sentencing guideline range.
