ICU Medical, a California-based medical device maker, announced Tuesday it will move some molding and automated assembly operations to its newly acquired Salt Lake City plant.

The company has also opted to keep certain molding and production operations, stemming from its May 1 acquisition of Hospira Inc., in Salt Lake. According to a statement released by the company, ICU Medical's decision to maintain production in Salt Lake was based on relocation and operating cost comparisons, which favored the Salt Lake City production location.

Manual assembly operations in Salt Lake City will still be moved to other ICU Medical facilities or other lower cost locations over the next several years, the company said.

Representatives of ICU were not immediately available for comment about the employment impact of the moves.
