OREM — Loretta Palmer has become associate vice president for undergraduate research and international programs at Utah Valley State College.
Palmer will be responsible for coordinating undergraduate research, international studies and study abroad programs. She also will be responsible for any copyrights and patents that are needed because of discoveries from faculty research. She will oversee grants and contracts.
"It's a very wide, diverse set of activities, but they complement each other so well," Palmer said. "For example, working with scholarly activities and grants means I'm able to help people search for the support they need for scholarly activities."
Palmer began the new job July 1.
Palmer, 58, has worked for UVSC since 1989. She taught math, worked in distance education and was chairwoman of the Multimedia Communications Technology Department. She received a doctorate in instructional science and technology from Brigham Young University.
"My research is in international copyright issues and the effect that digital media has in making those decisions," she said.
She has worked in higher education in Africa and Kosovo with her husband Allen Palmer, a communication professor at BYU.
