Utah has a long history of federal prosecutors persecuting Utah residents. A recent case included willful misconduct by federal prosecutors, and a federal judge chastising as "unconscionable" the actions of the federal government. The Olympic "bribery" fiasco also resulted in a tongue lashing of federal prosecutors. This persecutorial attitude is defended rather than corrected by Paul Warner, the U.S. attorney, in a recent letter (Readers' Forum, July 27). That same letter reveals a knee-jerk defense of one of Mr. Warner's good ol' boy colleagues and fails to rebut the underlying concern that "Federal prosecutors don't necessarily have to identify a crime before they set out to destroy lives."

Therefore, I must conclude that the quality of your editorial page is far superior to the quality of federal prosecutors in Utah.
