Utah
VOLLEYBALL: Utah (5-3) hosts the Hampton Inn Utah Classic at Crimson Court this week. Idaho and Santa Clara are the other two teams participating in the annual event. The Utes will battle Idaho on Thursday and return to the court to play Santa Clara on Saturday. All matches will start at 7 p.m.
SOCCER: Utah freshman forward Adele Letro has been named the Mountain West Conference women's soccer offensive player of the week. This is Letro's first player of the week honor. Letro, from Davis, Calif., scored two goals to lift the Utes over Purdue and Denver last weekend. Letro has scored a goal in each of Utah's last three games.
Also, goalkeeper Ashley Mason has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer national team of the week. Mason allowed only one goal in Utah's 2-1 win over the Boilermakers on Friday. She then held Denver scoreless in Utah's 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
Utah is off to the best start in school history with a 6-0 record.
CROSS COUNTRY: Utah's women's cross country team heads to Bozeman, Mont., for the MSU Invitational on Saturday. Utah will compete along with Montana State University, Utah Valley State College and Montana University. The Utes are coming off a third-place finish at the BYU 5K Autumn Classic.
BYU
MEN'S TENNIS: BYU begins its fall season today, playing in the Iman's Court Open at the BYU outdoor tennis courts. This year's fall opener takes on a new look, as the Cougars move from an invitational format to a new, open format.
The team decided to host an open tournament in order to get community members involved in BYU tennis. Along with athletes from Montana State, Colorado, Utah State, Weber State and BYU, residents of Utah County are welcome to compete.
The Iman's Court Open begins today and runs through Saturday. The tournament will feature both singles and doubles play. Today's matches begin at 3 p.m. Matches on Thursday and Friday will start at 10 a.m., and Saturday's matches begin at 11 a.m.
Weber State
MEN'S GOLF: Weber State fired a final-round 284 to make a run for the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational title, but the Wildcats fell four strokes short of tournament host Air Force at Colorado Springs, Colo. Greg Buckway and Barry Schenk each posted top-10 finishes. Buckway led the Wildcats with a 3-under 213 to finish third overall. Schenk fired a final-round 68 to finish in sixth place individually with a 2-under 214.
WOMEN'S GOLF: Weber finished 16th in the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic on Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. The Wildcats shot a final-round 308 after rounds of 321 and 319 on Monday. Jessica Thomas led the Wildcats with a 13-over 229 to tie for 39th. Katie Higham tied for 47th with a three-round total of 232, while Amy Mombert tied for 63rd with a 237. Freshman Amanda Case tied for 85th in her first tournament as a Wildcat after shooting 253, and Heather Balli finished 90th with a 259.
Utah State
SOCCER: USU (0-4-2) continues to look for its first win of the season as it returns to Logan to begin a four-game homestand. The Aggies open the week hosting San Francisco on Thursday at 4 p.m. They then host Idaho State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Southern Utah
SOCCER: After playing just two matches in 11 days, Southern Utah faces back-to-back games this week. The women's soccer team (1-1-1) plays host to Idaho State (2-4-0) Thursday at 5 p.m., then travels north to Orem for a Saturday tilt at 2 p.m. against Utah Valley State (1-3-0).
Utah Valley
BASEBALL: Utah Valley State baseball is holding its Fall Camp, beginning Sept. 22 at Wolverine Baseball Stadium in Orem. The Fall Camp will allow high school-age players a chance to work on their skills in game situations and at the same time be instructed by Utah Valley State coaches and players.
The camp will consist of four teams made up of 15-18 players per team. Each team will be coached by Utah Valley State players and coaches.
