Vera Whitaker 1908 ~ 2006 She was a sweetheart, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Only a few months shy of her 98th birthday, she passed away January 15, 2006 with her loving family by her side. She was the youngest of nine children born to Danish Immigrants, Julius and Angelina Marker Sorensen, May 15, 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Vera was a graduate of the old LDS High School. She met and married her sweetheart, George Whitaker, June 17, 1933 and was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple May 15, 1947. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years. She was a proud mother of two children, nine grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. She loved her family with all her heart. Her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving diligently in a variety of callings. Vera cherished the years she worked for the LDS Church and the important role she accomplished. She was an avid reader and could discuss any subject from church, sports, current and past events. For those blessed to meet her, all were touched by her warm smile, gentle touch, sense of humor, and strong spirit. She is survived by her children Arlene (Merwyn) Ellis, Salt Lake City and Earl (Pam) Whitaker, New Harmony, UT. A heartfelt thanks from the family to the Hearts for Hospice staff, and especially Judy and those that worked with her.
