Robert Burrel Mechling 05/19/21 ~ 01/20/06 Robert Burrel Mechling, 84, of Bountiful, died Friday, January 20, 2006 at the VA Hospital in SLC following a short illness. Bob was born in SLC, Utah, May 19, 1921, to Burrel Armbrust and Stella Williams Mechling. He was a graduate of West High School. Bob was an army infantry soldier in World War II and served in the North Pacific Aleutian Islands campaign (1942-44), and then the invasion of Germany in 1945. He was a Carman Inspector at the Union Pacific Railroad for 31 years, retiring in 1982. Bob married LaVerne Brown in SLC and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He built their home himself in Bountiful Utah, where they raised their family of five sons and one daughter. He converted to the LDS Church in 1946 and was an active member. He and his wife were ordinance workers in the Bountiful LDS Temple for seven years. Bob loved his fruit orchard and gardens, roller skating, math, following the stock market, vacation travel, Hollywood musicals, trout fishing, and tinkering around his home. Most of all, he loved being with his wife and big family. He is survived by his loving wife; and six children, Robert(Sharon) of Sandy; Barbara Hilton (Laurence) of Kearney, NE; Ken (Claudia)of Bluffdale; Doug (Pam), of West Jordan; Don (Kathryn) of Orem, Ed (Kathy),of SLC; and one brother, Vern (Gloria) of Murray; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25 at the LDS Val Verda Stake Center, 2651 S. 500 W., Bountiful. A viewing for friends will be held Tues. Jan. 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful and 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment in the Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 So., Sandy, Utah.
