James Henry Moyle II 1931 ~ 2006 James Henry Moyle II died peacefully in his sleep on Oct. 16, 2006. He was born on September 15, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York to James Douglas and Louise Covey Moyle. He graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City in 1948 and from the University of Utah with Bachelor Degrees in Political Science, French, and Spanish in 1955, 1989, and 1990, respectively. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served a mission for the LDS Church in France from 1950 to 1953, followed by service in the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division, during which service he trained troops in skiing and cold weather survival. Keenly interested in foreign languages, while in Europe he learned French, German and Spanish, to which competencies he later added Italian and Portuguese. On March 26, 1962, Jim married Janice Nelson, of Provo, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home and raised their family in Salt Lake City. They are the parents of five children: James III (Kristen), Nelson, Melissa Hassell (Darren), Matthew, and Catherine Hess (Brian). They are grandparents of 13: Taylor Moyle, Aspen Hassell, James "J.J." Moyle, Hunter Hassell, Emily Moyle, Sage Hassell, Mary Ann Moyle, Ashton Moyle, John Hess, Forrest Hassell, David Hess, Michael Moyle, and Elizabeth Hess. Jim's first career was in the gasoline distributing business. During that period he served as president of United Oil Company, under which ownership he operated several Phillips Petroleum stations; started his own brand of Cheer Service stations; and served as president of Tires and Batteries, Inc. He sold his interests in these businesses in 1977 and became a real estate broker and owner of Prudential Real Estate. In 1988, at age 57, he went back to school and became certified to teach French, German, and Spanish. He began his third career on his 60th birthday, teaching Spanish at Evergreen Jr. High in Salt Lake City's Granite School District. He retired six years later. Jim served the LDS Church in many capacities. Jim and Janice served together as temple workers in the Salt Lake Temple from 1998 to 2000. From 2000 to 2002 they fulfilled a call to the Switzerland Geneva Mission. Upon their return they settled in Provo, Utah. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and his three sisters, Suzanne (Brent) Scott, Patricia Light and Elizabeth (Spencer) Greer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at 12 noon at the Federal Heights LDS Chapel, 1300 E. Fairfax Rd., Salt Lake City, UT. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary of Provo, UT, 185 E.
