LA QUINTA, Calif. — It was a tough day for Utah's four entrants at the PGA Tour National Qualifying Tournament at PGA West Thursday. Sandy's Steve Schneiter got off to a poor start, playing the first eight holes 8-over par and finished with a 79. That dropped him from a tie for 13th place to a tie for 112th place. He stands at 150, 15 shots behind leader Rich Barcelo, whose 64 put him at 135.
Bountiful's Garrett Clegg fell from a tie for 44th place to a tie for 71st at 147 after shooting a 74. St. George's Brad Sutterfield also shot a 74 and stands in a tie for 132nd place at 152.
Farmington's Boyd Summerhays got off to a bad start and was 10-over before making birdies on three of the final five holes for a 79 and a 156 total. He is ahead of just three golfers in the 162-player field.
The low 30 finishers earn PGA cards for next year, while the next 50 golfers qualify for Nationwide Tour.
