Indigenous peoples were the first to inhabit what is now known as Mexico. After Christopher Columbus discovered America, the Spaniards carried out expeditions to find gold and riches. In 1521, Spanish soldiers arrived in Mexico and owned and ruled "New Spain" for three centuries.
The French also went to battle with Mexico. The French occupation of Mexico did not end until 1867. So it would seem that modern Mexico stole the country from the Spaniards and the French.
