Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio hired close friend, one-time teammate and former Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice as an assistant head coach Wednesday.

Del Rio also promoted Andy Heck to offensive line coach, replacing fired coach Paul Boudreau. Heck spent the past two years as Boudreau's assistant.

Del Rio said Tice will work on the offensive side of the ball.

"Over the last 10 years, Mike has been a major contributor to some very productive offenses," Del Rio said in a statement. "Mike brings toughness, experience and passion. He will certainly be a tremendous asset to me and our offensive staff as we continue our pursuit of a championship."

CHIEFS' WATERS GETS EXTENSION: Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters has agreed to a six-year contract extension, the team said Wednesday. Waters has made the Pro Bowl the past two seasons. Terms were not disclosed. Waters started his NFL career with Dallas in 1999 but was cut, signing with Kansas City about six months later.

JAGUARS RE-SIGN DEFENSIVE TACKLE WILLIAMS: The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed defensive tackle Tony Williams on Wednesday. Williams signed with Jacksonville last season as an unrestricted free agent from Cincinnati and was waived during the preseason.

ANDERSON SIGNS WITH JETS TO RETIRE: Fullback Richie Anderson signed with the New York Jets on Wednesday so he could retire as a member of the team. Anderson was out of football in 2005 after the Cowboys cut him last April. He spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Jets after being taken in the sixth round of the 1993 draft.
