Richard "Dick" Hyde Dalton 1925 ~ 2006 Richard "Dick" Hyde Dalton age 80, a resident of Bliss, Idaho died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in Gooding, Idaho, with his family at his bedside, after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was born on July 11, 1925 in Sandy City, Utah, the son of Melvin Emmett and Edna Hyde Dalton. He was raised and educated in Sandy City and Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from Blaine Junior High and later Granite High School in 1944. He attended college at the University of Utah and BYU and served an LDS mission in the Eastern States Mission working with the Seneca Indians. He married Mollie Rae Baker on January 27, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Richard and Mollie moved to Nyssa, Oregon where they farmed and started their family. After several moves, they settled in the Tuttle, Idaho area in 1967. They farmed, dairied, produced Red Angus cattle and raised a family. On one of the moves while living in Carey, Idaho, Richard farmed and raised the first seed potato crop in that area. Richard was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings including Sunday School Superintendent, Bishop's Counselor and Ward Choir Director. He loved to teach in church and sing and play the piano with his family. Survivors include his wife Mollie Rae Dalton; sons, Matthew (Kari) Dalton of Island Park, Rex (Elaine) Dalton of Gooding, Barry (Dodi) Dalton of Shoshone; daughters, Sue (Mike) Madarieta of Boise, Sylvia (Kevin) Ellis of Richfield, Roberta (Craig) Thompson of Meridian, Nancy (Doug) Surerus of Carey; sisters, Margaret Taylor of Salt Lake City, Utah, Alice Kerr of Sun Lakes, Arizona; 33 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with two more on the way, many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lyman and Lawrence Dalton and sister, Miriam Johansen. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Hagerman LDS Church with Bishop Jay Hauser officiating. Burial will be in the Hagerman Cemetery. Family members and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9th at Demaray Funeral Chapel in Gooding and from 10-11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
