Obituary: John Edward Holmes

John Edward Holmes "Papa" 1938 ~ 2006 John passed away on Monday, March 13, 2006 at his home. He was born Nov. 22, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Harvey Holmes "Pappy" and Doris Catt Holmes "Kitty". Married Lynnette Amestoy on May 3, 1959, in Elko Nevada. Marriage solemnized on July 12, 1989 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. John was a self-made man and was involved in many businesses throughout his life. He worked with many great family and friends through the years. However, his life's work was in the construction business, from residential homes to commercial buildings and land development. John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishops counselor and bishop, and as a member of the stake presidency. He loved his work in the church and did it faithfully until he was no longer able. His special love of his service was the many people he willingly and lovingly served, who continue to be his greatest friends. He is survived by his wife Lynnette, son John Walter (Susan) Holmes, daughter Sandra Marie (Kory) Roberts, eight grandchildren; Randy "Tug", Amanda "Camanda", Kolby "Stirfry", Rory "Bubba", Rachel "Rachyree", Chloe "Chloestein", Connor and Noah. He also leaves behind one brother Elder Michael H. Holmes (Marion) and two sisters Ola Ewing (Dan) and Ann Lund (Brent). Many other family and numerous friends. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Nedra Sue and Janice Lee and many great friends. His life was his family, who he loved dearly and never failed to tell us so. The family would like to thank Dr. Mansoor Emam "Number one", who took care of "Sir John" diligently and with so much love. They became brothers and together have served many others who were in need. Thank you for never leaving his side. We would also like to thank David George and family and Leslie Higley and family who have become part of our family and who have been here for him every day. We express our gratitude to so many who given their love and support, and for the many prayers offered in his behalf over the years. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will be Thursday, March 16th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. All services will be at the Union Park Stake Center located at 7699 S. Chad Street. (7699 S. 822 E.) Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E. 10600 S.
