FRISCO, Texas — Kenny Cooper's first MLS goal gave FC Dallas a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Fire in the first game of the league's season on Saturday.
Cooper made his MLS debut in the game's 65th minute and scored 5 minutes later to give FC Dallas its first lead. FC Dallas rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits.
On the winning goal, Cooper angled in a header from the top of the goalie's box. Bobby Rhine set up the score when he crossed a pass from the right flank to Cooper. Ronnie O'Brien also assisted.
Cooper, who played high school soccer in the Dallas area, was signed by FC Dallas recently after getting cut by Manchester United.
Robert Mina and Arturo Alvarez also scored for FC Dallas. Mina's volley from 25 yards tied it at 2 in the 66th minute.
Chris Rolfe and Chad Barrett had the goals for the Fire. Ivan Guerrero assisted on Rolfe's goal, which gave Chicago a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute.
FC Dallas goalie Dario Sala, making his second career MLS start, finished with five saves. He is filling in for Jeff Cassar, who is out indefinitely with a hernia. Chicago goalie Zach Thornton also had five saves.
