Marie Ruf Jones 1911 ~ 2006 Marie Ruf Jones, age 95, passed away on April 24, 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a long and healthy life. Marie was born on March 17, 1911 in Freeport, Illinois to Ulrich and Elsie Michel Ruf. She went to a one room school for eight years which taught all eight grades, and was graduated from Dakota High School. She went on to graduate in nursing from Deaconess Hospital in Freeport; and took special surgical training at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. She also graduated from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio in 1937. While working in Saginaw, Michigan she met John H. Jones and on July 5, 1938 they were married in Dubuque, Iowa. They moved to Magna and then Salt Lake City where Marie worked as a nurse at LDS and Holy Cross Hospitals. Marie loved to golf and was a member of the Fort Douglas/Hidden Valley Country Club. She also loved to grow flowers and was very active with the African Violet Society, the Salt Lake Garden Club, and the Utah Arts Council as well as PTA and scouting. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia of Woodburn, Oregon and sons John, Mark and Marvin all from Salt Lake City; sister Dorothy Albert and brother Donald Ruf; five grandchildren Millicent Hocking, Wesley and Zachary Jones and Matthew and Andrew Jones. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive from 9:30-9:55. In lieu of flowers the family supports contributions to a favorite charity in Marie's honor.
