William Eldon "Bill" Sutton 1921 ~ 2006 William Eldon "Bill" Sutton, 85, passed away April 24, 2006, in Orem, UT, after courageously enduring many physical trials. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT, on April 10, 1921, to Thomas Charles and Ethel Rosetta Luck Sutton and was the first born of four brothers. While Bill was in the first grade, at Whittier Grade School, he met his eventual lifelong friend, Bill Dickerson. It was said of the two Bills "if they didn't find trouble, it seemed to find them." He graduated with South High School's class of 1938. Soon after graduation, his family moved to San Diego, CA, where Bill's favorite pastimes were sailing in the San Diego Bay and getting his pilots license. He, and some of his friends, bought their own small plane and had many adventures. In 1941, he was called to serve for the LDS Church in the North Central States Mission. Upon his return, he married June Davies in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 14, 1944. Three children were born to this union: Diana, Susan and Bill. During World War II, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served on the island of Guam. He was always proud to be an American and a Marine. After his military service, he and June built a home in Monrovia, CA. He was a sales representative for General Electric and the Coleman Company and, in 1960, he was transferred to Concord, CA. In 1967 the family moved to West Covina, CA., where Bill founded his own insurance agency. He later worked as a facility manager for the LDS Church in the southern states. His final years of employment were spent working for Zion Securities overseeing several building projects in Salt Lake City. Bill was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, which included bishop, high councilman and counselor in a stake presidency. In 1979-1980, Bill and June served together as missionaries in the Virginia Roanoke Mission. Bill made friends wherever he went and to many people he was known as "Brother Handshake". He was also a loyal BYU Cougars fan. He is survived by his wife, June; daughters: Diana Sutton and Susan (Dennis) Borg, of Orem, UT; son, Bill (Julie) Sutton, of Highland, UT; brother, Robert (Adele) Sutton, of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law, Mary Sutton, of Encinitas, CA; 12 grandchildren and 14 1/2 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Bill". He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Raymond Charles Sutton and Thomas Jackson Sutton; sister-in- law, Beverly Sutton. Heartfelt thanks go to Kathy Marsden, Libni Balderas, Karen Hansen and Kelly Powell, of A- Plus Home Health, for their many years of service and kindness to Bill and his family.
