Brian Doyle, who was arrested Wednesday on charges of transmitting pornographic images to someone he thought was a minor, resigned Friday from his position as deputy press secretary at the Homeland Security Department, said Russ Knocke, a department spokesman.

The apprehension of Doyle, 55, has prompted an investigation by the House Homeland Security Committee into the department's hiring practices.

Following his arrest at his home in Silver Spring, Md., department officials suspended Doyle without pay and rescinded his employee badge, security clearance and access to the Washington headquarters.
