SYRACUSE — A paraglider crashed into a two-story garage and fell 20 feet to the ground Monday, injuring its two passengers.

Syracuse Police Sgt. Mark Sessions said Ben Whicker, 73, of Kaysville and his son Glenn Whicker, 50, of Dale City, Va., were injured in the accident about 4:19 p.m.

Ben Whicker, the pilot, was taking off and landing in the area near 4000 West and Antelope Drive when he clipped the edge of the garage and crashed.

People driving by saw it fall from the building and spiral out of control until it came to rest in a field, Sessions said. He said witnesses pulled the victims away from the glider because gasoline was dripping on them.

The two were flown to McKay-Dee Hospital in critical condition. Sessions said they suffered from broken bones and the father complained of chest- and stomach-area pain. They are both expected to recover. No one on the ground was hurt.
