Wilma Ann Garn Smith 1940 ~ 2006 BOUNTIFUL, UT- Our dearest mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Wilma Ann Garn Smith, succumbed to a long illness on Sunday, April 30, 2006. Wilma was born on May 2, 1940 in Sugar City, Idaho to Harvey and Valera Garn. She was the middle child in a family of four children who were raised on a ranch in Sugar City, Idaho. Growing up she enjoyed horses and going to rodeo with her family. Wilma graduated from Sugar-Salem high school in 1958, where she enjoyed debate, marching band and was an officer of the national league chapter. Wilma attended Rick's College, Brigham Young University and the University of Utah, earning a degree in arts. In 1962, Wilma served an LDS mission to Finland where she became life long friends with her fellow missionaries. She greatly loved the Finnish people and honored her daughter with a Finnish name. It was her unrealized dream to return again to Finland. Wilma married Morgan Robert Smith on December 29, 1965 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They moved to Logan, Utah where they began their family of four children, later moving to West Bountiful, Utah to raise them. Wilma was a very talented artist, who enjoyed crafts, sewing and even had the opportunity to make Utah State University cheerleading uniforms. Wilma was a huge Karl Malone and Utah Jazz fan and was an avid sports watcher. She spent countless hours watching her family in sporting events. Wilma is survived by her ex-husband and life long friend Morgan, her brother James Nye Garn (Joan), her sister La Juana Cable, three children: Maija-Liisa Sorensen (Don), Kim Patrick Smith (Ambra), Jason Robert Smith (Sharla), and four grandchildren, D.J. and Nicholas Sorensen, and Brayden and Madison Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Christopher Brandon Smith, and her eldest brother Harvey Arlen Garn. Wilma's family expresses their deep appreciation and gratitude to the West Bountiful 5th Ward, her dear friend LeeAnn Hepworth and her long term physician Dr. Jeffrey Degraw. In particular, we thank Dr. Russell Shields and the caring staff at South Davis Community Hospital for their love and support of her during her illness. Funeral services will the held at the West Bountiful 5th Ward, 840 North 800 West on Friday, May 5th, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., with graveside services to follow at the Centerville Cemetery.
