BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) — Fire swept through a home early Wednesday, killing four people, and damaged a neighboring church and three other buildings.
The man who lived in the house managed to grab his oldest daughter and they jumped to safety from a second floor window, Fire Chief Clifford Hogan said.
Emergency crews found the man and his daughter on the front lawn.
"He kept saying 'My wife! My kids! My wife! My kids!' " said neighbor Rick Smith, who said he was awakened by an explosion. He said he and another neighbor ran around the burning house but couldn't find a way in.
