Police have identified a man killed during an argument that started between two girls at a party in Salt Lake City Tuesday and ended in gunfire.

Tevita Finau David Vaenuku, 18, was shot and killed just before 2:30 a.m. near 1800 West and 400 North.

More than 100 people were attending a party at that address when two girls began fighting, said Salt Lake police detective Joe Cyr. A 21-year-old man was shot in the arm and a 10-year-old boy was grazed in the neck during the gun battle.

Police said neither injury was life-threatening.

Two 17-year-old boys were later arrested in connection with the shootings.

Cyr said Vaenuku was part of a group that stepped in after the argument between the girls started, and was shot.

Wednesday, Cyr said the shooting no longer appeared to be gang-related. The initial argument, he said, was over a man.
