Brannon Brooks, a cornerback and running back at California's Elk Grove High near Sacramento, Calif., pledged to sign a letter-of-intent to play college football at BYU on Thursday, according to Scout.com.
Brooks is the 19th recruit to publicly commit to the Cougars, an unprecedented number for mid-summer. Most of the 19 athletes will play their senior season of high school this fall and cannot officially sign until February 2007.
Brooks (5-foot-10, 165 pounds), attended BYU's junior day this past spring. BYU was the first Division I school to make him an offer. Other schools interested in Brooks included Fresno State, Oregon and Boston College.
Brooks, who was recruited by BYU quarterbacks coach Brandon Doman, gave his pledge to head coach Bronco Mendenhall on Thursday, according to TotalBluSports.com. Brooks is slated to play corner at BYU.
