The son of polygamist Tom Green was arrested and charged in 3rd District Court Wednesday with two counts of rape of a child.
William Green, 18, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday afternoon on the two first-degree felonies for having sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl in February and March, according to court documents.
He met his victim through his MySpace Web page, said Draper Police Sgt. Gerry Allred, and a relationship developed.
Allred said Green did not portray himself as someone else and the incident did not fall into a classic Internet predator situation. In fact, the girl apparently knew of Green's polygamous father, he said.
However, Allred said he wouldn't call the incident completely consensual either but refused to elaborate, saying details would come out later in court.
There was also no evidence gathered by police that polygamy had anything to do with the case.
"There's no indication or nothing in our complaint that links (the incident) to (Tom Green's) ideology," Allred said.
Police were made aware of the incident after the victim came forward, he said.
Tom Green was sentenced in 2001 to a possible term of life for a child rape conviction for "marrying" and having sex with his first wife when she was 13 years old. He was also sentenced to zero-to-five-year terms on four counts of bigamy for having four other wives.
Green was granted parole, however, and is scheduled to be released from prison in August of 2007.
