Emerson Humperys Kennington 1916 ~ 2006 Emerson H. Kennington, son of Ira L. Kennington and Emeline H. Kennington, died August 3, 2006, in Holladay, Utah. He was born in Afton, Wyoming and lived with his parents and siblings in Kamas and Elsinore, Utah; Rexburg and Preston, Idaho. He was educated in the Preston schools and graduated from Utah State University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific Area. He was proud to serve his country and often spoke of his years of service. He married Audrie McCashland in 1942. She passed away in 1990. They were the parents of three boys and a girl: Dean, Jay, Keith, and Mary Ann, who died in infancy. They made their home in Holladay, Utah. He was active in scouting and helped many young men earn their awards. He was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was active in the LDS church, serving as a bishop and a temple worker. He enjoyed genealogy and spent many years with his father and brothers researching their family history. He was proud of his heritage and the sacrifice of those who came before. He served a mission for the LDS church, in Texas/Louisiana. He taught school in the Jordan School District and retired after 35 years. He also served on the Supervisory Committee for the Jordan Credit Union. He worked for the Geological Service in Water Resources. He managed the Holladay Stake Recreation Property. He loved the outdoors, especially skiing and working at Alta. He is preceded in death by his wife Audrie, daughter Mary Ann, parents and brothers, Bernell, Paul, and Mack. He is survived by two sisters, Genoa Wilhelmson, Layton; Cumorah Romney, Logan; sisters-in-law Erline Kennington, Burley, ID; Rosabeth DeLapp, Salt Lake; sons Dean (Elizabeth), Sandy; Jay (Tamra), Ogden; and Keith (Gayle), Ogden; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the St. Joseph's Marion Center, and to Sheri and her staff at Elderly Manor as they all made the last weeks of Emerson's life comfortable. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 7, 2006, at the Holladay 3rd Ward, 4568 So. Holladay Blvd., at 11:00 am. Friends may call the evening before at the Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 So. Highland Dr., from 6-8 p.m., and one hour before the services at the Holladay 3rd Ward. Interment Holladay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
