Dr. Richard Elmer Maxwell, Sr. 1941 ~ 2006 Dr. Richard Elmer Maxwell, Sr. survived by his wife, Maureen B. Maxwell, and his five loving children, died of a long-standing heart illness on September 18, 2006 at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah. He was born March 20, 1941 in Heber City, Utah to Elmer Hugh and Mercy May Maxwell. As a young man he was a Golden Glove Boxer who always had a fascination with rockets and auto mechanics. After high school he attended the University of Utah. While working for the Department of Anatomy, he also was a pioneer programmer and consultant in the Computer Science Department. After completing his education, obtaining a B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science through the College of Engineering, he went on to become a quality and reliability engineer at Hercules Aerospace, where he worked for over 20 years. He later worked for Lockheed -Martin Missiles & Space Company, and NASA for over 10 years, to include working on the rocket motors for the Space Shuttle. Always being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he treasured spending time with his family and loved watching them grow to be successful. He will be buried and remembered at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. located at 3401 South Highland Dr. Viewing will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park on Friday, September 22, 2006 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. A gathering will follow the funeral to reminisce and remember him, the location will be announced at the service. He will be remembered distinctly to us all and deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Maureen, and his children, Angela Christina Borges (Jason), Elaina, Ila Marie, Shane, and Rich, Jr.; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Illa May Stanworth of Delta, Utah.
