Comcast announced Friday that it will increase the price of its cable packages on Nov. 1, 2006. The average customer's bill will increase by less than 5 percent, the company said in a statement.

The standard cable package will increase by $4, from $46.60 to $50.60 per month. There are no price increases for high-speed Internet services or phone services, the company said.

In addition to higher operating costs, Comcast said the price increase is a result of its recent agreement with Fox Sports Utah to carry 40 Utah Jazz games being carried by FSN this season, and by the addition of The mtn., home of Brigham Young University and University of Utah sports.

As a result of this price adjustment, Comcast said it will not raise rates in early 2007 as previously scheduled. Also effective Nov. 1, the company said it is reducing the cost of CableGuard, a program that covers in-home visits for the diagnosis of video/data reception problems and the repair of in-home wiring, from $3.50 to 99 cents.
