A bill passed out of the Senate on Monday that would require a person with two DUI violations to have an ignition interlock device installed in their car.

An ignition interlock device helps prevent a car from starting if the driver has had too much to drink. The driver must breathe into the device and have it test their breath before being able to use their vehicle.

Sen. Carlene Walker, R-Cottonwood Heights, is sponsoring SB4. The measure is supported by groups such as the statewide Association of Prosecutors. It will now head to the House for debate.
