The Mormon Tabernacle Choir's latest CD, which has spent the past several weeks in the top position on the Billboard Classical Album list, has been nominated for two Grammy awards by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

"Spirit of the Season," a collection of songs from the choir's 2006 Christmas concert featuring Norwegian recording artist Sissel and the Orchestra at Temple Square, is nominated for the Best Classical Crossover Album of the Year, as well as Best Engineered Classical Album.

"This is a tribute to everyone who played a part in the recording," said Craig Jessop, music director for the choir, "from Sissel and the 360-voice choir, to the musicians and the technical professionals."

The choir already has one Grammy in its collection. In 1959, the choir won the prestigious award for their recording of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
