Haruye "Evelyn" Iwasaki 1921 ~ 2007 Haruye "Evelyn" Oba Iwasaki, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at home on Sun., Feb. 18, 2007. She was born in Atascadero, CA. on January 19, 1921, the eldest of Tomekichi Oba and Koma Yamagami Oba. She married Iwao "Bill" Iwasaki on Sept. 21, 1936. They shared a good life and celebrated over 70 years together. The loves of mom's life were her family and her church, the Japanese Church of Christ in Salt Lake City, UT. She was devoted to her family and the extended families. We all felt her unconditional love. She was an active member of the Church, participating in many outreach activities until her illness prevented it. One special place of outreach was volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen. Our mom worked hard at whatever task was before her. She was determined and disciplined. We will remember the example she set for all of us. She is survived by her husband, Iwao "Bill"; three children: Hiro (Elaine) Iwasaki, Beverly (Spencer) Saito, and Glenn (Marian) Iwasaki; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sisters: Tsugiko Harada and Mitsuko Hirota; brother, Hisashi Shinohara; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Fujio (Dora) Iwasaki, Tsuru Iwasaki, Mitsue Sugimoto, Sumi Iwasaki; many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Iwao Oba; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kazuo (Margaret) Iwasaki, Min Iwasaki, Kiyoshi (Fumi) Komatsu, Etsuji Harada, and Harry Hirota. The family wishes to thank "Hai" for her loving care and all the hugs and kisses she showered on mom (and dad) when she came to help during Mom's illness. And, before "Hai", we thank Helenora, another loving caregiver. Also, we wish to express our gratitude to Dr. Gerald Rothstein, University Hospital, and the Hospice for UT staff (especially Rayola and Kami) for their compassionate care. On Fri., Feb. 23, there will be a viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Deseret Mortuary in Salt Lake City, 36 East 700 S. Funeral services will be Sat., Feb. 24 at 11:00 a.m., also at the mortuary. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 So. (Bengal Blvd.), Cottonwood Heights.
