Local businesses were honored Thursday for coming to the aid of disabled residents of a burglarized housing complex in Magna.
The first annual "Friends of DOC" (Disability Outreach Committee) celebration was held at Magna's Pleasant Green Villa apartments, which houses disabled residents.
Six months ago, the complex at 2971 S. 8400 West was burglarized for the third time in two years. Thanks to local businesses and donations, many of the stolen items have been replaced, and conditions at the complex have improved.
"It's really been phenomenal," said Mark Miller, chairman of the nonprofit Disability Outreach Committee and a Pleasant Green Villa resident. "I can't believe the response we've gotten from the community."
In August, three computers were stolen from Pleasant Green Villa's clubhouse. A television, DVD/VCR set, stereo system and bicycles were stolen previously.
In addition to three new computers, a home-security system was donated and installed in the clubhouse.
