Mary B. Nielson Shaffer In Memoriam Mary B. Nielson Shaffer passed away peacefully at her home on March 1. She was born in Wellsville, Utah, on October 8, 1922 to Mildred and Archibald Baxter. Mary married her high school sweetheart Edward Nielson and they were parents of two daughters, Geraldine and Mary Lee. Ed was killed in a light plane crash on January 25, 1948. She later married Ed Shaffer. He also preceded her in death. Mary is survived by her two daughters, six grandchildren, and brother Morris Baxter. Mary was a retired employee of the federal government (Bureau of Land Management). She was an avid reader and bridge player, a long time member of the Ladies Literary Club and the Salt Lake Garden Club.
