Friends of 15-year-old Kara Hopkins are selling bracelets to help raise money for funeral expenses for the Hopkins family.
Hopkins was a sophomore at Murray High School. She previously attended Hillcrest Junior High after moving to Murray from southern Utah.
Michelle Reynolds, who says she was Hopkins' best friend, said she and other friends came up with the idea to sell the bracelets. A bracelet with different colored beads and Chinese symbols sells for $3 and a rope bracelet sells for $2.
Reynolds said Tuesday it was too hard to talk about the loss of her friend and declined to answer questions about Parley Dutson, Hopkins' boyfriend. Police say Dutson shot and killed the young girl last weekend.
Some of Hopkins' friends in southern Utah, who have their own Myspace.com pages, changed the monikers on their pages Tuesday to honor her.
One 21-year-old St. George woman's Myspace page said, "Kara you are and will always be in my heart. RIP." A 22-year-old St. George man's site simply said, "Sad day for those who love and remember Kara."
Kara's obituary, published Tuesday, said the girl born in Heber had a love for law and debate. She also enjoyed dancing, music and her friends and family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at Jenkin-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South).
