Mountain America Credit Union issued a warning to its members that fraudulent telephone inquiries and voice messages asking for Visa account information are being placed to consumers in Utah.

The calls are not originating at Mountain America Credit Union, the credit union said in a statement, but are "random attempts to gain account information for fraudulent purposes by an outside party."

"Mountain America Credit Union is working with the FBI to track down the origination location and shut the phone numbers down," the statement said. "Consumers receiving such calls or messages should not respond."

Those who have responded to the messages should call their bank or credit union immediately. Mountain America Credit Union members should call 800-748-4302 or their nearest Mountain America Credit Union branch.
