William A. Huckins, Jr. "Bill" William Alonzo (Bill) Huckins, Jr. passed away March 31, 2007. Bill was born December 25, 1921 in Ogden, Utah to William A., Sr. and Florence Dunkley Huckins. He married Abby Louise Rodgers, March 20, 1948 in Winnemucca, Nevada. They raised two sons, Rodger C. and William A. (Lon), III. Abby preceded Bill in death after 57 years of marriage. Bill attended schools in Ogden, Provo and Salt Lake City. He graduated from East High School then attended the University of Utah, majoring in Electrical Engineering. When World War II broke out, he enlisted in the Army-Air Corps where his field of training enabled him to attend Harvard, Yale and MIT. After the war ended, he finished his degree at the U of U. He also joined the Air Force Reserve proudly serving 39 years before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Worked for Westinghouse until the Korean War started and he was called back to active duty. After the war, he returned to Salt Lake City to work at the Salt Lake Hardware Company where he was in charge of purchasing for the electrical department. Also worked for Riter Engineering Company, Ajax Manufacturing, GTE-Sylvania and PacificCorp in the same capacity. Retired from PacifiCorp. Bill had a passion for skiing. Raced competitively for the U of U. He also enjoyed golfing especially after his retirement. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and he and Abby would spend many weekends camping and fishing together. Bill and Abby also had a hobby of genealogy and traveled the country to trace both of their families' heritages. They were able to publish books about the genealogy of each family. Bill is survived by his two sons Rodger C. (Karen) Huckins and William A. (Fong) Huckins, III; his grandsons Nathan Allred, William Huckins, Lee Huckins and his granddaughter Chara (Carl Malaret) Huckins and one great-grand-daughter, Charlese. Funeral services will be held Fri., April 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E. 100 N., American Fork with a viewing one hour before. The family would like to express our greatest gratitude to the staff at Woodland Park Care Center and HCS Hospice for the care and comfort given to Dad as he approached the end of his life.
