OREM — When the country group Restless Heart disbanded in 1994, the breakup was attributed to some restless hearts in the group.
Some attempted solo careers, others joined country bands, one left the music business altogether and became the owner of a chain of car washes.
Formed in 1984 in Nashville as a studio band to record demos for record producer Tim DuBois, the musicians brought a bit of pop to their arrangements and led a new sound movement that spawned an armload of hits, including seven No. 1's in a row. At the time the quintet, which has been compared to the Eagles, was the genre's most prolific hitmaker until band members went their separate ways, a SCERA Center for the Arts spokeswoman said.
After breaking into the country scene, it was with the speed of a "Fast Movin' Train" — one of their hits — as the singers quickly captured three gold albums and 15 top-10 hits that included "The Bluest Eyes in Texas," "A Tender Lie," "Why Does It Have to Be (Wrong or Right)," "This Rock Won't Roll," "I'll Still Be Lovin' You," "Dancy's Dream," "When She Cries," "Wheels," "Say What's in Your Heart" and "You Can Depend on Me."
In 1990, Restless Heart earned the Academy of Country Music's Vocal Group of the Year award.
Now back together, the country band that also crossed over to adult contemporary, brings its showmanship center stage to Orem Monday.
"These artists dominated the charts for more than a decade," said Adam Robertson, SCERA president. "They're back together and better than ever, and we're happy to be one of the stops on their nationwide tour."
According to their press information, music and the love they had for each other reunited them to record and continue producing their signature flawless harmony, top-notch instrumental abilities and heartfelt vocal emotion.
The artists include drummer-vocalist John Dittrich, pianist Dave Innis, bassist-vocalist Paul Gregg, guitarist Greg Jennings and lead singer Larry Stewart.
Their first studio album in 14 years, "Still Restless," is available in stores now.
