Richard Longstroth Warner 1923 ~ 2007 Richard L. (Rick) Warner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away in the LDS Hospital on June 19, 2007. Born in Salt Lake City, Nov. 1, 1923, son of Homer Candland Warner and Grace Richards Warner, he married Marian Cannon Nelson in the Salt Lake Temple on May 5, 1949. Rick was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, work ethic and drive to help others. Prominent in the automobile business for 50 years, he maintained an "open door" policy for employees and customers - always ready to listen. He enjoyed his Church service as home teacher, deacons advisor, stake YMMIA president, Temple Square guide, bishop, U of U student stake president, regional representative, Monument Park Stake mission president, counselor in the General Sunday School presidency and in the Hawaii Temple presidency on his mission with Marian. Rick loved sports. Following an osteomyelitis infection at age nine which left Rick with a fused hip and a dashed dream of a future in football, his father introduced him to tennis with a 75 cent racquet. As he won major titles in tennis including the Utah State Men's Open at age 19, golf, and racquetball, Rick's agility, sportsmanship and integrity marked him a champion - on and off the court. Following his motto, "Things Work Out", Rick tackled adversity with humor and an ever-optimistic outlook. He celebrated the success of others. Rick's family and dear friendships were his great treasure. He made fun an art form. Children, young and old, nieces and nephews adored him. Beyond his honors in business and athletics, his community service, his faith, and his genuine "What can I do for you?" approach - his heartfelt gratitude, endless tan and quiet generosity are his legacy. Rick is survived by his wife, Marian and nine children: Julie (Armand) Johansen, Richard L. Jr., Bart (Liz), Marjorie Johnson, Lisa (Rob) Campbell, Molly (Jeff) Wetzel, Amy (Steven) Timm, James (Esther), Stayner (Kristina); brothers: Dr. Homer R. Warner, D. Gill (Nedra) Warner; sister, Emma Lou (Melvin) Thayne; 45 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Mon., June 25th, 2007 at the Monument Park Stake Center (1320 S. Wasatch Blvd., SLC). Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Sun., June 24th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary (2350 E. 1300 S., SLC) and Mon., June 25th, from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Monument Park Stake Center prior to services. Warner Family or the Leon and Karen Peterson Music Scholarship Fund at the U of U.
