Darren Robert Smith 1983 ~ 2007 Darren Robert Smith, 23 years old, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2007 after a year's valiant fight with cancer. He was born August 16, 1983, the son of Douglas and Polly Smith. Darren attended and graduated from Granite High School in 2001. He was active in the LDS church and served in the San Diego, California Spanish speaking mission. Darren was an example and hero to all that knew him. He was an athlete in heart and mind and enjoyed all sports. He excelled in baseball wrestling and football, was always ready for a game of basketball at the church, and loved to play a Saturday soccer game or flag football with his friends. At his sickest he was ready to golf 18 holes never wanting to give up in the middle. Darren is survived by parents and his brothers and sisters Adam, Ali, Stephen and Katy Smith. He is also survived by his best friend Melinda Done; she loved and supported Darren until the very end. Other survivors include his grandparents, Glenn and June Smith, Robert and Bonnie Maurer, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and, supportive friends. Special thanks to the supportive services at Rocky Mountain Hospice, Huntsman Cancer Clinic and Hospital, and those at Utah Cancer Specialists. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Huntsman Cancer. Funeral Services will be held on Mon., June 25, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Church at 4320 South 1100 East in Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held at the Church on Sunday evening, June 24th, from 6-8 p.m. and on Mon. from 10-10:45 a.m. Burial will follow the services at Elysian Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South.
