Like energy independence, America should strive for military self-reliance. Thus, the outsourcing of $40 billion worth of American jobs and taxpayer money to France for the purchase of jet-refueling tankers would be a mistake.

France, which recently declared economic warfare on the U.S. and rarely sides with America on military issues, could withhold production at critical times in order to influence U.S. policy. American companies and workers are quite capable of producing a state-of-the-art tanker fleet.
