The Osher Lifelong Institute through the University of Utah will offer the following classes for the summer semester beginning July 10.
Raw Foods: Tuesdays beginning July 10, 7-9 p.m. in the Annex at the U., 1901 E. South Campus Drive. Cost is $64. This class will focus on how raw foods can increase youthful vitality and energy. Students will learn techniques for sprouting and dehydration, as well as tips on combining and seasoning raw foods.
Beginning Guitar: Tuesdays, July 10-Aug. 21, 7-8 p.m. in the Annex at the U., 1901 E. South Campus Drive. Cost is $109. Students will learn basic technique, note reading, chords, rhythm and music fundamentals. No experience is necessary.
Travel Writing: Tuesdays and Fridays, July 10-20, U. Park City Campus, 1255 Park Ave., Park City. Cost is $97. This four-week course explores how to create thoughtful, colorful and well-crafted travel essays, journals and stories.
Medicinal Plants of Utah: Wednesday, July 11, 6-9 p.m., class meets at Red Butte Garden, 300 Wakara Way. Cost is $39 or $35 for Red Butte Garden members. Students will learn how to identify, harvest and preserve useful plants as well as make medicinal preparations.
Hand Writing Analysis: Wednesdays, July 11-25, 6:30-9 p.m. in the Annex at the U., 1901 E. South Campus Drive. Cost is $75. Classes will focus on the foundations of analyzing human personality through handwriting. Students will have the opportunity to examine their own handwriting or that of another.
Fencing: Thursdays, July 12-Aug. 16, 7-8:30 p.m., Heritage Center Dance room, Fort Douglas. Cost is $139. Students will learn or refine the techniques of modern sword fighting, including the garden, advance/retreat, lunge and parry. All equipment and protective clothing are provided.
Lake Catherine/Albion Basin Wildflower Hike: Sunday, July 15, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meet at the Catherine's Pass trailhead at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Cost is $39. During a morning hike through Albion Basin to Catherine's Pass students will be introduced to the dozens of species of blooming wildflowers. Monkeyflower, monkshood, lady's tresses, monument plant and penstemon are just a few of the 300 varieties of wildflowers that will be introduced delight your senses.
