MURRAY — A newly rebuilt Deseret Industries will open Thursday at 10 a.m.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which oversees operations at the thrift store at 4485 S. Main, will welcome shoppers at a 9:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting.

The public is welcome to attend the event heralding the store's reopening.

Crews have spent a year working on the building. The Murray store was demolished and then built again from the ground up, according to a statement from the LDS Church.

The new 53,000-square-foot facility, which will be one of the church's largest Deseret Industries, also will serve as a training center to more than 200 people each year.

The Murray store also will have a room dedicated to making kits for Church Humanitarian Services and will provide clothing each year to the Church Humanitarian Center for international distribution.

The Deseret Industries in Murray, through its community partnership programs, assists 26 charitable agencies in the Salt Lake area, including Jewish Family Services, Catholic Community Services, and the Salt Lake County Jail.

The LDS Church owns and operates 46 Deseret Industries in seven western states.
