The Lowry fire burning about six miles east of Scipio in Millard County has grown to 2,870 acres.

The fire was started by lightning last Monday and has burned in mountain ridges in the area. So far, pinyon pines, junipers, oak brush and grass have been destroyed.

The blaze made a few small runs downhill Saturday, but crews made progress building containment lines, said fire information officer Sherie Taylor.
