She was born in Seaham Harbour, County Durham, England, April 4, 1921, the "first and only daughter" of James Porter Anderson and Sarah Gleghorn Anderson. She and her husband, Kenneth, made their home in West Valley. Mary retired after a long career at First Security Bank. The two most important aspects of her life were her family and the church.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, James, George, Bill, and Alec Anderson. She is survived by children, Ann (Arlyn) Proctor, Kenneth (Denise) Jones, Margaret (Michael) Tebbs, and Christopher (Angela) Jones; 21 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.
