PROVO (AP) — The Boise funeral for Brigham Young University student Camille Cleverley will be attended by the two people who took her bike and later turned it in, giving authorities a solid lead that helped them find her body.

Ben Marks, 19, and Patricia Madsen, 17, apologized to Cleverley's parents during a candlelight service Sunday, shortly after her body was discovered in Provo Canyon, family spokesman Robert Grossman said.

"They forgave them," he said.

Marks and Madsen "also asked to attend the funeral, and the Cleverleys welcomed them," Grossman said.

The Orem pair had nothing to do with Cleverley's disappearance. Police believe the 22-year-old woman, last seen riding her bike Aug. 30, probably fell to her death while hiking the next day.

Marks and Madsen found her bike locked to a rack at Bridal Veil Falls. They took it, believing it was abandoned, attorney Catherine Cleveland said.

On Sept. 6, after seeing news reports about the missing woman and her bike, they surrendered the bike to police.

"They could have dumped the bike.... I see them as heroes," Cleveland said. "I don't think the body would have been found. Police were looking in all the wrong places."

She said they will not be prosecuted.

As for attending Cleverley's funeral Saturday in Boise, Marks and Madsen "need closure," she said.

"They've learned a huge lesson. They're just kids," Cleveland said.
