Carolyn Thorn Heath Marler
1929 ~ 2007
Carolyn Thorn Heath Marler, 78, our much loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away at home on September 14, 2007 after bravely enduring years of lung disease and debilitating osteoarthritis. She persevered through the years of pain and illness with stubbornness and pure grit. She is an inspiration to all who knew her.Carolyn was born August 24, 1929 in Salt Lake City to Lawrence H. Heath and Minnie Thorn Heath. She grew up in SLC, graduated from South High and the U of U, earning her B.S. in Secondary Education. While at the U. she was a proud member of Alpha Phi and served as Rush Chairman and President.
Carolyn met and fell in love with Dewey Marler. They were married October 26, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had four children, Brad, Scott, Tamra and M'Liss. They later divorced. Carolyn was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings throughout her life. Her favorite was working with the youth. She was dedicated to serving her family and the community, spending countless hours of service in the P.T.A., the U. of U. Theatre Guild, The Assistance League, Soroptimist and many others. Along the way she made many wonderful and cherished friends. In 1977, Carolyn embarked on a new career in Real Estate. She spent the next 26 years working hard and building her success, making the "Million Dollar Club" several times. She was proud of her accomplishments, especially that her success made it possible to remain living in her home the last 6 years of her illness. We are just as proud.
Carolyn loved to travel and was blessed to have visited many exotic places. She loved the Theatre, especially her trips to the Shakespearean Festival. She had a gift for learning and a quick, intelligent mind. She had a witty sense of humor and loved a good discussion. Carolyn was creative, artistic and able to use those talents often to help others. She was a Class Act. Most of all Carolyn loved her family. They were everything to her. We will miss her.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Brad Marler, Fallon NV; Tamra (Jack) Martin, Fairfax, VA; M'Liss (Mark) Shurtleff, Sandy UT; daughter-in-law, Ann Marler, Sugar Land, TX; sister, Nancy Ferrin, Murray, UT; sister-in-law, Joan H. Talbot, Santa Maria, CA; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son, Scott Marler; brother, Larry Heath; brother-in-law, Jack Ferrin; daughter-in-law, Margi O. Smith; and her parents.
For the past four years two angels have been in Carolyn's life, Maria and Karinna. We can never thank them enough for taking such wonderful care of our Mother and giving us peace of mind knowing she was safe and well cared for.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 19, 12:00 noon at the Mt. Olympus LDS Ward, 3862 East Oakview Drive, Salt Lake City, UT. A viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, SLC, Tuesday September 18th from 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery following services.
