Regarding your editorial "Horses don't trump all else" (Aug. 29), why are those who argue wild horses are destroying the environment in Sheldon opposed to the Fish and Wildlife Service following the law and doing a complete national environmental impact statement? It's just spin to make allegations that the horses compete with other wildlife to their detriment when it has not been substantiated by analyses and field studies. Why are environmental extremists and wildlife and hunting organizations opposed to the law? Why are they opposed to science?

The truth is the wildlife bighorn sheep hunting industry donates large amounts of money to the Sheldon refuge to hunt bighorn sheep, selling tags for $1,200. Hunting is a huge industry for elitist trophy hunters. What about the rights of the common folk who enjoy watching wild horses in the Sheldon refuge? It is not an exclusive park for elitist bighorn sheep trophy hunters or grouse and antelope hunters.
