1. ST. GEORGE, Jan. 10 — Keely Amber Hall, 15, was strangled to death and her body dumped in a neighborhood park. A 14-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder, rape and aggravated sexual assault. Carlos Hernandez, now 15, was certified in December to stand trial as an adult. Shortly after, he pleaded guilty to rape and murder in exchange for a charge of aggravated sexual assault being dropped. He was sentenced to serve 15 years to life in prison for the murder and five years to life for the rape.

2. WEST VALLEY CITY, Jan. 10 — Tri Xuan Phan, 36, was found beaten to death inside the pool hall he owned, Vui Vui Billiards, 1839 W. 3500 South. Investigators have no suspects and have not revealed a possible motive for the slaying.

3. ST. GEORGE, Jan. 13 — Mark Batin, 27, was shot and killed in a remote part of Washington County known as "Utah Hill" along the Utah-Arizona border. Edgar Ghermon Navarro-Moreno, 25, was charged with first-degree felony murder. Three others were charged with obstruction of justice for trying to cover up the crime. His next court appearance is Jan. 8.

4. SAN JUAN COUNTY, Jan. 15 — Yuki Yoshida died when the vehicle she was riding in plummeted off a cliff outside Monument Valley. The vehicle was driven by Yu-Shung Lin. Investigators later determined Lin purposely drove the vehicle off the cliff in a murder-suicide.

5. MURRAY, Jan 18. — The skeletal remains of Steven D. Gransee Jr., 28, were found frozen in thick ice just off the Jordan Parkway. It wasn't until June, however, that police determined through an autopsy from the Utah state medical examiner that Gransee's death was the result of homicide. It appeared as though Gransee had been shot in the chest. Investigators have no suspects or motive in the case.

6. SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 23 — Lisa Pouha, 40, was stabbed multiple times in the chest outside her apartment near the corner of 850 South and 1400 West just before 1:30 a.m. Her husband, 38-year-old Sione Talanoa, was found several blocks away and arrested. He was charged with first-degree felony murder. Police believe the couple had been arguing about Talanoa's alleged extramarital affair just before the stabbing. Talanoa pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

7-11. SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 12 — A lone gunman, heavily armed, drove to Trolley Square and randomly opened fire on unsuspecting shoppers. Sulejman Talovic's murderous path started in the parking structure and continued through half the mall. His three minutes of terror ended after a group of Salt Lake City police officers and an off-duty Ogden police officer confronted Talovic, then shot and killed him in an exchange of gunfire. Five people were killed and four wounded by Talovic. The five fatalities:

12. TOOELE, Feb. 18 —Two men were left to die inside a burning sport utility vehicle near Delle. Oscar Botello, 29, was found in the back seat. He was killed in the fire. Julio Caesar Garcia Rodriguez, 24, was able to escape and was found by police trying to crawl away. He had burns over 54 percent of his body. Investigators believed the murder was drug-related. Rodriguez has since been released from the hospital and returned to Mexico. No arrests have been made.

13. SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 24 — Solomone Tuifua, 22, was shot and killed outside a house, 1540 W. 900 South, where nearly a hundred people were celebrating a birthday party. Another woman in a nearby house was injured by a stray bullet. David Kamoto, 19, was later charged with murder and surrendered to authorities. A second man, 26-year-old Soakai Satini, was also arrested. The shooting was believed to be gang related. A two-day jury trial for Kamoto is set for Feb. 13.

14. WEBER COUNTY, April 6 — Nathan D. Harris, 24, of Eagle Mountain, was stabbed to death near Weber Memorial Campground near the Causey Reservoir. His girlfriend, Monika Ann Dilmaghanian, 34, was arrested and eventually convicted of murder. Her three children, ages 10, 9 and 8, witnessed the killing. Harris and Dilmaghanian were reportedly arguing over a pagan ceremony. In September, a judge tried to reduce the charge to manslaughter for a lighter prison sentence but was legally unable. Because of that, Dilmaghanian was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

15. WEST JORDAN, April 7 — Kara Hopkins, 15, was shot and killed at a party at Willow Cove Apartments, 9300 S. Redwood Road. Her boyfriend, Parley Jeffs Dutson, 18, who was reportedly high on drugs at the time, shot Hopkins when she refused to have sex with him, police say. Dutson was charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated sexual assault. A trial is set for March 11.

16. LAYTON, April 10 — Canden Crook, 5 weeks, was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center and died a few days later from apparent shaken baby syndrome. In July, Brad Crook, 29, was arrested and charged with second-degree felony child abuse homicide. In October, the case was remanded back to central arraignments for a preliminary hearing.

17. SOUTH SALT LAKE, April 29 — Kevin Brent Cone, 50, was shot to death in an incident in which two other people were shot and injured and a dog fatally shot. Daniel Paul Blankenship, 30, and 35-year-old Jason Kyle Clark were each charged in the case. Clark was charged with capital homicide and could be eligible for the death penalty if convicted. One of the women that survived was shot seven times, the other eight. The motive for the shootings, according to a statement from Blankenship, had to do with retaliation for a beating and a drug deal gone bad. A trial is set to begin Sept. 2 for Clark. Blankenship has a motion hearing scheduled for Jan. 10.

18. WEST VALLEY, May 12 — Manuel Archuleta, 32, died after being shot five times in the back of his head. Bob Jeffrey Veloz, 19, was charged with first-degree felony murder. Two others were also arrested and charged with obstruction of justice for helping Archuleta dump Veloz's body and trying to clean up any evidence. Witnesses to the shooting were unsure of a motive. At least one testified in court that it was over a car stereo. Another said he didn't know someone was going to be shot until Veloz pulled out a gun and started firing. Veloz will return to court Jan. 7 for a review hearing.

19. SALT LAKE CITY, June 8 — Viliami Latu, 34, was shot on his front porch, near 1800 West and 600 North. In October, Salt Lake City police issued search warrants to obtain the palm prints of two men already in the Utah State Prison on unrelated charges. Investigators say they are actively working the case and still following leads. No motive for the shooting has been released.

20. AMERICAN FORK, June 12 — Jordan Putnam, 20 months, was beaten to death. His father, Jason Putnam, was arrested and later charged with aggravated murder, which could bring the death penalty. Police believe he beat his son because he wouldn't stop crying. He is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 15.

21. SALT LAKE CITY, June 24 — Luis Trujillo, 17, was riding in the back seat of a car on I-15 near 2100 South when another car pulled up beside him and opened fire, killing Trujillo. Police say the shooting was the result of mistaken identity. Samuel Paul Krokaugger and Mohamed Daffalla Kabor were both charged in 3rd District Court with first-degree felony murder. Krokaugger handed a gun to Kabor and told him to shoot, according to court documents. Detectives say Krokaugger was involved in several homicide or attempted homicide cases. A trial is set for Feb. 25.

22. SALT LAKE CITY, June 25 — Utah Department of Corrections guard Stephen Anderson, 60, was shot and killed by an inmate trying to escape. Curtis Allgier, 27, allegedly wrestled Anderson's gun away from him while being treated at University Hospital's Orthopaedic Clinic. His escape led to an intense chase that culminated when Allgier ran inside an Arby's, 1700 S. Redwood Road, and tried to take hostages. Police eventually found Allgier hiding in a back room and arrested him without further incident. Allgier was charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated murder. Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty if he is convicted. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 20.

23. SOUTH SALT LAKE, June 29 — Aaron Wheelwright, 20, was shot in the walkway of the Mountain Shadows apartment complex and bled to death during a drug deal gone bad. Samuel Paul Krokaugger was charged in 3rd District Court with first-degree felony murder. In addition to the Wheelwright and Trujillo slayings, Krokaugger was also charged with attempted homicide for shooting a man in June near 800 South and 900 West and shooting a girl in the head who was throwing water balloons from her car in Salt Lake City. A trial is set for Feb. 25.

24. SALT LAKE COUNTY (Magna), July 4 — Gia Garza died a day before her fourth birthday after being beaten and possibly bleeding internally for a day before succumbing to her injuries. Salvador Lee Sanchez, 24, was arrested for investigation of child abuse homicide in the death of Veronica Samaniego's 3-year-old daughter. Sanchez, Samaniego's live-in boyfriend, told detectives he had disciplined the girl by striking her with a belt. An autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to the abdomen. A trial on multiple counts of endangering a child begins April 1.

25. SALT LAKE CITY, July 22 — Josue Contreras-Velasco, 9, died of hypothermia after being forced to stand naked in a tub of ice water for 45 minutes in the kitchen of a Salt Lake City restaurant. Rebecca Hernandez, Josue's sister, and Pedro Gaucin-Canales were charged in 3rd District Court with murder, child abuse and obstruction of justice. The couple's next court hearing is Jan. 7.

26 and 27. TOOELE COUNTY, Aug. 1 — Mariah Jessop, 3, and her 4-year-old brother, James, died in an inferno inside their father's SUV. Investigators say 30-year-old Christopher Jessop, who was going through a divorce, set the fire. Jessop also died in the blaze. Detectives believe Jessop committed the double murder-suicide because he did not want his wife to have custody of the children.

28 and 29. OGDEN, Aug. 5 — Sabrina Prieto, 22, and 29-year-old Nava Nevarez were shot and killed while attending a wedding party at a home in the 700 block of Madison Avenue. Two others were also shot but survived. Riqo Mariano Perea, 19, was charged with two counts of aggravated murder. Police say he drove by the wedding party and randomly fired into the group of about 30 people. Investigators were looking into whether the shooting spree was gang related. The case was bound over for trial. Perea's next court appearance is Jan. 7.

30. MURRAY, Aug. 6 — Jesus Izarraras, 17, was shot in the chest and killed at Walden Park near 1100 West and 5400 South after reportedly calling another man a "pansy." Brian Bocephus Baker, 19, was arrested and charged in 3rd District Court with murder, obstruction of justice, aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. A trial will begin May 12.

31. SAN JUAN COUNTY, Ute Indian Reservation, Aug. 12 — Jennifer Cantsee was shot and killed in a domestic dispute. Cantsee was reportedly fighting with 37-year-old Nathan Dutchie over her children when she dared him to shoot her. Dutchie was arrested after pulling the trigger, shooting and killing Cantsee. His next court appearance is Jan. 28.

32. SALT LAKE COUNTY, Aug. 11 — Kevin Sheperd was shot and killed after a fight in a Copperton apartment. Steven Lovendahl, 30, was charged with first-degree felony murder. Investigators said both men were intoxicated at the time of the slaying. Lovendahl was reportedly upset with Sheperd for assaulting a female. His next court appearance is Jan. 9.

33. SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 15 — Faviola Hernandez, 24, was shot and killed during an armed robbery at the salon she owned, Bushwacker Salon, 1331 W. California Ave. Police later arrested the man they believed was the getaway driver, 22-year-old Jesus Alarcon Jimenez. Investigators continued to look for 19-year-old Miguel Mateos-Martinez, who was believed to be the shooter. Police say Hernandez may have been shot after the robbers saw her pull out her own gun.

34. TAYLORSVILLE, Aug. 29 — Isidro Cano, 63, was stabbed and killed outside his trailer at the Majestic Oaks mobile-home park, 882 W. Big Mountain Drive (4690 South). David Berry, 28, whose father lives in the same mobile-home complex, approached Cano and two other men at random and announced, "I want to kill someone," police said. He was charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated murder and obstruction of justice. A preliminary hearing will be April 2.

35. BICKNELL, Wayne County, Aug. 29 — Kimberly Burnette, 41, was shot and killed inside a motel room. Investigators believe her husband, Matthew Keller, shot and killed Burnette before committing suicide. The couple had been living in the hotel for about a month.

36. SALT LAKE COUNTY, Aug. 31 — Benjamin Perkins-Link, 19, was beaten to death with 5-foot metal pipe. Christopher Allen Hewitt, 18, an acquaintance of Perkins-Link, was with the victim and another man in a parking lot near 4300 East and 4200 South. The two victims thought they were going to go hiking in Neff's Canyon. Instead, police say Hewitt attacked both men unprovoked. Hewitt was charged with murder and attempted murder. His next hearing is Feb. 4.

37. UINTAH-OURAY INDIAN RESERVATION, Sept. 2 — Pablo Serawop, 28, and his brother, 19-year-old Gaylon Elias Serawop Jr., were found shot to death on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation. The FBI was still investigating the case in December. The investigation reportedly was looking at whether Pablo was beaten to death by his brother, who then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

38. SALT LAKE COUNTY, Sept. 8 — David K. Farrimond, 42, was found stabbed to death in a church parking lot near 4300 West and 5700 South. Friends say Farrimond had left early from a party to go find the leg of a chair he was restoring. His body was found by his friends about 2:30 a.m. Thomas J. Soules, 19, was charged Oct. 16 in 3rd District Court with homicide. Detectives said the break in the case came when Soules talked to acquaintances about what happened. Police believe robbery was the motive in the killing. A preliminary hearing is Jan. 9.

39. SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 9 — Maria Del Carmen Rosas-Sanchez, 39, was shot and killed in her apartment, 1054 N. Victoria Way (940 West). She was found in a bedroom with a pair of men's boxer shorts tied around her eyes. Investigators were looking for her live-in boyfriend, 32-year-old Guadalupe Martinez, and his cousin, 33-year-old Rafael Gutierrez, for questioning. Both left their apartment after the shooting, telling their landlord they had to return to Mexico for a family emergency.

40. OGDEN, Sept. 21 — Jesus Sanchez Aparicio, 22, was shot and killed in a convenience store parking lot in what police called a gang-related incident. A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the slaying and faces a certification hearing in juvenile court this month to determine if he should be prosecuted as an adult.

41. WEST VALLEY CITY, Sept. 22 — Cody Dodge, 26, was found shot in the head by his roommate on the living room floor of their home near 5100 West and 4500 South. Police say Dodge was a marijuana dealer who had a significant quantity of pot in the house the night he was murdered. No arrests have been made, but police said they are still pursuing active leads.

42. DRAPER, Oct. 3 — Lynn A. Richards was shot multiple times and killed by her husband, Daniel H. Richards, who then committed suicide. The two were discovered by construction workers remodeling their home near 14300 South and 1000 East. No motive was given for the murder-suicide.

43. SALT LAKE COUNTY, Oct. 3 — Patricia Rothermich, 64, was killed after being run over by a car in her quiet neighborhood near 2500 East and 5100 South. Her husband, 59-year-old Sherman Lynch, was charged with first-degree felony murder and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony. After his wife was killed, Lynch gave interviews with local media calling for the person responsible to surrender. That's when a woman who was Lynch's girlfriend called investigators, saying she had purchased a truck with Lynch that matched the description of the one that ran over Rothermich. She said she did not know Lynch was already married. In December, a judge bound over Lynch's case for trial.

44. SOUTH SALT LAKE, Oct. 7 — Juan Carlos Ochoa, 24, from Washington state, was shot multiple times and killed in the parking lot of Flower Patch, 3302 S. 300 West. Steven Daniel Lucero, 20, was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice. Police have not yet offered a motive for the shooting. A preliminary hearing is Jan. 18.

45. MURRAY, Oct. 10 — Ann Poulson, 68, was found dead inside her house by police who had been called by concerned neighbors who had not seen her for a few days. Poulson was a part-time Deseret Morning News employee who worked for the past eight years in accounting. James William Tolbert, 42, was charged with aggravated murder. Poulson met Tolbert while she was doing missionary work at the Utah State Prison, where he was serving time for strangling his first wife to death in 1987. Poulson and Tolbert stayed in touch after he was released. Police believe Tolbert strangled Poulson to death in her home with a belt and took off with her car. He was found by police hiding in Memory Grove Oct. 25. Tolbert pleaded guilty in December to aggravated murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

46. SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 10 — Christian Charles Draayer, 31, was stabbed to death in Pioneer Park. Stephen Atiana, 45, was eventually shot and killed by police after he stabbed and killed Draayer and critically injured a second man near the park, 61-year-old Edmund White.

47. WEST VALLEY CITY, Oct. 21 — Louis Paul Miera, 37, was shot in the neck and left abandoned in a car near 1400 West and 4300 South. Frank Madrid, 37, was charged with first-degree felony murder and second-degree felonies of obstruction of justice and illegal possession of a firearm. Police believe the shooting actually happened near 2650 W. 3360 South, and Miera was originally sitting in the driver's seat when he was shot and killed. After the shooting, police say Madrid pushed Miera into the passenger's seat and drove to the location where he was eventually found. Robbery was believed to be the motive, according to detectives. His next court appearance is Feb. 22.

48, 49 and 50. SALT LAKE COUNTY (KEARNS), Oct. 28 — Sharon Al-Shimmary, who reportedly was battling depression, killed her three young children before taking her own life inside a locked bedroom in their home. A fire was intentionally set on the floor in the room. Two of the children died from smoke inhalation. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office has not revealed how the third child was killed. Toxicology tests showed prescription drugs that could be used as sedatives were found in the children, possibly explaining why they did not run out of the room once it was set on fire. Al-Shimmary stabbed herself in the stomach before dying of smoke inhalation. Her murdered children:

51. KANE COUNTY, Oct. 30— The body of Kennard Martin Honore, 69, was found in a cinder pit near Navajo Lake. Investigators believe Honore, from San Clemente, Calif., was shot and killed sometime between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1. Investigators were still looking for suspects and a motive in the case.

52. SANDY, Nov. 15 — Kenneth G. Dolezsar, 50, was shot multiple times and killed outside Village Inn by an unknown assailant. Dolezsar, a wealthy Springville resident known for helping launch and make large contributions to the Utah Valley State College club hockey team, was reportedly meeting an acquaintance at the Sandy restaurant. After the shooting, the gunman fled in Dolezsar's SUV and then abandoned it in a nearby cemetery. Police are still looking for a suspect and motive.

53 and 54. BERYL, Iron County, Nov. 16 — The bodies of Chad Grijalva and Derek Davis, both 34, were discovered buried under a shed on a rundown property in a remote area. Both were shot to death. The men disappeared Oct. 24 when they told family members they were going to run a few errands, including one stop in which a man owed them money. They only expected to be gone a couple of hours, according to a family member. On Nov. 16, deputies going to arrest Martin Nelson for failing to register as a sex offender spotted the men's missing truck on Nelson's property. Cadaver dogs were used to find the bodies. Nelson was charged with several crimes unrelated to the double homicide. Murder charges in the case were pending as of late December.

55. SOUTH SALT LAKE, Nov. 18 — A 2-month-old girl, identified in court documents only as "B.M.," died from shaken baby syndrome. Everado Mendoza, 21, is accused of violently shaking his daughter. Police later served a search warrant on the home, where there were still three other children living, and found drugs and paraphernalia. Mendoza was charged in 3rd District Court with first-degree felony murder and three counts of endangerment of a child. His next court appearance is Jan. 14.

56. TAYLORSVILLE, Nov. 21 — A 6-week-old girl, identified only as "Q.S." in court documents, died from shaken baby syndrome. The infant's 17-year-old father, Cleotis Shipman, was charged with first-degree felony murder and has a preliminary hearing March 11.

57. SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 27 — Vincent Samora, 35, was shot and killed in his driveway, 1250 W. Glendale Drive (1350 South). Two men were last seen driving away in a Jeep Cherokee. Samora had an extensive criminal history. Anthony Prater, 23, was charged with aggravated murder and obstruction of justice, both first-degree felonies, and five counts of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. His next court appearance is Jan. 14.

58. BEAVER, Dec. 2 — Timothy McEnaney was shot and killed while sitting in a restaurant at the Timberline Inn. Mark Elden Erickson, 30, was charged with aggravated murder. Erickson was reportedly trying to reconcile with his ex-wife and had actually been living with her for a month. On the night of the slaying, however, she met McEnaney, an old friend, for dinner. Erickson found out that McEnaney was in town and went looking for his ex-wife. A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 6.

59. OREM, Dec. 22 — Manuel Saucedo, 21, died a day after being shot in the head. Police are looking for 28-year-old Raul Brito, who they believe was with Saucedo at the time of the shooting.

60. SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 26 — Verne Walter Jenkins, 31, was shot and killed at Sapp Brothers truck stop. Jenkins, a security guard, had asked Roger Malcolm to leave after Malcolm was acting belligerent in the store because he felt the clerk was taking too long. Malcolm pulled out a gun and shot Jenkins, police say, killing him.

1. SALT LAKE COUNTY, Jan. 6 — Two residents of a facility for Alzheimer's patients got into a fight. A 66-year-old man pushed a 77-year-old man down a flight of stairs. The man hit his head and died as a result of his injuries. The incident was classified as a homicide by assault, but the Salt Lake District Attorney's Office declined to file charges.

2. SALT LAKE CITY, July 8 — Nathaniel Valdez, 25, was shot and killed following a family fight. Valdez took a gun to confront David Smith, who had kicked Valdez's mother out of their apartment. Smith grabbed his own gun before answering the door. Following a confrontation in the doorway, Smith shot and killed Valdez. Police arrested Smith for investigation of homicide, but the Salt Lake District Attorney's Office declined to file charges.

3. SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 22 — Dillon Whitney, 16, got drunk at a party hosted by an adult, fell down a flight of stairs and died. Police said Victor Hernandez, 47, was providing alcohol to several minors at the party at his apartment, 1050 S. 250 East. He was charged with negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor, and obstruction of justice.

4. WEST VALLEY CITY, Dec. 13 — A man police say was part of a home invasion robbery was shot and killed by the homeowner he had just robbed and taken hostage. Detectives believe at least three people were involved with the robbery. After two men bound the homeowner and his wife, they led the husband around the house to point out valuables. As they were preparing to leave, the husband broke free, grabbed the gun from one of the intruders and shot him.
